EPA Waives Gasoline Volatility Requirements In Pittsburgh To Assure Supply

In response to a request by the Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Saturday agreed to waive the requirements that special low RVP gasoline be distributed in the Pittsburgh Area. (Click Here for DEP announcement)
EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy noted flooding has shutdown the Buckeye Pipeline on September 9 as a result of severe flooding in Central Pennsylvania and as a result they and DEP were concerned adequate supplies would not be available in Pittsburgh to meet demand.
Gasoline suppliers are required to distribute 7.8 Reid Vapor Pressure product through September 15 as a measure to reduce ground level ozone pollution. The waiver allows the distribution of 9.0 RVP gasoline.
